Infertility Insurance Coverage Not Mandated in Washington, D.C.

Infertility treatments can place not only a physical and emotional toll on couples, but also a financial one as well. For many couples trying to conceive, the cost of IVF treatments can be daunting. Many look to their health insurance companies to shoulder some of the cost.
However, only 15 states currently have laws that require insurance companies to either cover infertility treatments or offer coverage for infertility treatments. Unfortunately, Washington, D.C. does not currently have any laws that require insurance coverage for infertility treatment.
Certain health insurance plans may offer some coverage. It is important to talk with your plan provider to see what they cover in terms of diagnostics and treatment.
Financing Infertility Treatment
If you live in Washington, D.C., and don’t have insurance coverage for infertility treatment, it doesn’t mean you won’t be able to afford it. Many fertility clinics offer programs to help finance treatment, including low-cost IVF, and IVF refund programs. In addition, there are several organizations that offer infertility treatment grants and aid. If you are considering or undergoing fertility treatment, your fertility clinic may have or know of financing options to make treatment more affordable.
