Infertility Insurance in South Carolina

Fertility treatments can quickly become very costly, especially since multiple courses of medication or IVF cycles are often needed. Insurance companies help shoulder the cost of other medical treatments, but many times, they do not cover infertility treatments.
Only 15 states currently have laws in place that require some type of infertility insurance, whether they require states to cover it or simply require plans to offer the coverage.
Unfortunately for Charleston residents, South Carolina is not one of these states, and there are no mandates in place currently to require insurance companies to cover infertility treatments.
However, before you start your treatment, it can be helpful to talk directly with your insurance provider or benefits administrator. Some private plans will cover treatment or limited treatment, so it is important to talk with a plan representative.
