Known Egg Donors and Anonymous Egg Donors
There are two types of egg donors: known and anonymous. Known egg donors are family members, friends, or someone you know via an agency. Anonymous donors choose to donate their eggs with the stipulation that their identity remains a secret. All donors should have comprehensive screenings for medical (including genetic and sexually transmitted diseases), psychiatric, and substance abuse histories.
Egg Donor Agencies and Clinics
Dallas has several established egg donor agencies and clinics. Texas has no formal licensing requirements so egg donor programs are not mandated to meet any specific standards. Carefully research the egg donor program you select. Egg donor agencies match intended parents with prospective donors. The advantage of using a donor agency is they act as a mediator between the donor, the recipient, and the clinic. Ask how long the agency has been in existence, what fertility clinics they work with, how many times a donor can donate, and get details about the screening process that is used to select possible donors.
You can also use a donor who is working directly with a fertility clinic. Clinics offer comprehensive fertility treatment, donor screening, and monitoring all in one place. Think about whether you feel more comfortable working with one team in one place.
