Using an Egg Donor in Syracuse

Women with conditions like premature ovarian failure or a diminished ovarian reserve may look to egg donation as a way to build their families. Others may choose egg donation if they want to avoid passing a genetic disorder down from the mother’s line, or if they are a gay couple using a surrogate.
The most recent Assisted Reproductive Technology Report contains information regarding the types of in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles- fresh, frozen, and donor egg. For a complete list of donor egg IVF cycles in Syracuse, please click here.

Known Egg Donors and Anonymous Egg Donors
There are two different kinds of egg donors you can use. The first is a known egg donor. Known egg donors are women you know personally, like a family member or a friend. The other is an anonymous egg donor. Anonymous egg donors are women you do not know personally, but donate their eggs while keeping their identity private from the recipient or intended parents. If you choose to use an anonymous egg donor, you can be matched with one through an egg donor agency or a fertility clinic.
Egg Donor Agencies and Clinics
Egg donor agencies match up prospective parents with egg donors. You can usually choose your egg donor based on characteristics like height, age, race, and ethnicity. At some clinics, you can even choose an egg donor based on education level or certain talent.
Because egg donor agencies are not regulated, it is important that you do careful research before deciding to work with a specific clinic. Make a list of questions you would like answered, like how long the organization has been in operation, and what kind of screening processes are in place for the donors, before you decide on an agency.
While there are no egg donor agencies located in Syracuse, there are egg donor agencies that work with clients throughout New York:
- Elite IVF
- Growing Generations
- Northeast Assisted Fertility Group
- Tiny Treasures
Some couples prefer to work with a fertility clinic instead of an egg donor agency. In this case, everything can be done in one location, including original diagnostics, egg donor screening, and the actual procedure.
In Syracuse, the CNY Fertility Center also works with egg donors.
