Personhood Initiative in Nevada Impacts Fertility Treatments

'Personhood” groups in Nevada are attempting to put measures on next year’s ballot. The measures would in effect outlaw abortion. Personhood USA’s proposed initiative would not only do that but, also outlaw some birth control, stem cell research, and infertility treatments. One local woman finds such a measure “scary.”

Las Vegas Program Offers Cancer Patients a Way to Preserve Fertility

The Las Vegas-based Sher Fertility institute launched a fertility aid program called Fertility Rescue this year. Nearly 20 people have taken steps to preserve their fertility at its branches across the country, including four people in Las Vegas. The Sher Fertility Institute at Spring Valley Hospital, covers a $10,000 egg-freezing cycle for cancer patients.

Too Much Caffeine Can Affect Fertility by Reducing Fallopian Tube Muscle Activity

Drinking too much coffee, say four or more cups daily, can hinder conception, says a new study. Researchers at the University of Nevada School of Medicine found that caffeine, the stimulant in coffee, impairs the transport of eggs from the ovaries to the womb, the British Journal of Pharmacology reported. The study, conducted on mice, showed that caffeine inhibits contractions of the Fallopian tubes which are needed to carry eggs to the womb.
