Can Robitussin Help You Get Pregnant?

If you've been trying to get pregnant for a while with no success, one of your well-meaning friends or family members has probably suggested trying Robitussin (in addition to legs up in the air and other well-meaning advice.)

It sounds crazy — a bottle of cough syrup that gives you a good buzz when you're sick might also help make you pregnant? The theory is that guaifenesin, the active ingredient in Robitussin and other expectorants, can help thin out "thick" or "hostile" cervical mucus, letting the sperm swim more easily.

We haven't found any research to back this theory up, and we don't rely on anecdotal stories, so our best advice is to talk to your Ob/Gyn or fertility doctor and find out the real deal on Robitussin and fertility.
