Who might use an egg donor?
0:00:10.000,0:00:12.000
Dr. John Payne, Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group (PREG): Donor egg is a very exciting option
0:00:12.000,0:00:19.000
for women who have either diminished ovarian reserve, have gone through premature ovarian failure,
0:00:19.000,0:00:26.000
or maybe have done some IVF cycles on their own using their own eggs and were not able to conceive.
0:00:26.000,0:00:32.000
It's where they have a younger woman who's usually an anonymous donor but could be a known donor
0:00:32.000,0:00:41.000
such as a sister or a friend who donates their eggs to be mixed with their partner's sperm or donor sperm to create embryos
0:00:41.000,0:00:50.000
which are then transferred into the recipient's uterus, which is the woman who was not able to use her own eggs for many different reasons.
0:00:50.000,0:00:55.000
And then she can carry the pregnancy in her own uterus and be the birth mother.
