10 Celebrities Who Used Surrogates
For those who want to have a biological child but struggle to conceive naturally, using a surrogate may be the option to turn to. Here are 10 celebrities who used surrogates to carry their babies:
1. Giuliana Rancic
Giuliana, 39, and Bill Rancic, 42, have been struggling with getting pregnant in the public eye, sharing their difficulties in their reality TV show, Giuliana and Bill. After a failed IVF cycle and Giuliana's breast cancer diagnosis, the couple decided to turn to gestational care. The couple welcomed son Duke in Aug 2012, and say that they would love to do it again.
2. Sarah Jessica Parker
Sex and the CIty star Sarah Jessica Parker and husband Matthew Broderick had their two twin girls, Tabitha and Marion, with the help of a surrogate. The couple already had one son and wanted to expand their family. Parker was 44 when the twins were born.
3. Ricky Martin
Ricky Martin, who recently came out, followed his dream to be a father. The singer chose an egg donor and had his twin boys, Matteo and Valentino with the help of a surrogate.
4. Elizabeth Banks
After struggling with infertility and implantation issues, Banks, 38, decided to turn to surrogacy to conceive her first son, Felix, and later her second son, Magnus. She says, "Once my focus became the baby and not the pregnancy, it was a very easy decision."
5. Nicole Kidman
Nicole Kidman and her husband Keith Urban had struggled with infertility for quite a while. Kidman's journey included an ectopic pregnancy, several miscarriages, failed fertility treatments and depression. In her mid-40s, Kidman decided to use a gestational carrier for her second biological child. The couple has said that they are so grateful that after many disappointments they were able to have children.
6.Neil Patrick Harris
The How I Met Your Mother star and his partner, David Burtka, had their children with a help of a surrogate. They chose to fertilize two donor eggs with each of their sperm, and have boy-girls twins.
7. Chris Daughtry
Chris and Deanna Daughtry used a surrogate to carry their twins. In 2006, Deanna had a partial hysterectomy which left her unable to carry a pregnancy. Thanks to IVF and a gestational surrogate, the couple was able to have two healthy babies.
8. Michelle Stafford
Michelle was single when she turned 40, but determined to be a mother. The actress struggled to conceive, and failed with multiple fertility treatments including in vitro fertilization (IVF) and artificial insemination (IUI). After three years of disappointment, she finally had her daughter Natalia using a sperm donor and a surrogate.
Jimmy Fallon, 38, and his wife Nancy Juvonen, 46, had their first daughter, Winnie Rose Fallon, via a surrogate after struggling to conceive for five years.
10. Katey Sagal
Katey Sagal had her third child at age 52 with the help of a surrogate. The Sons of Anarchy actress had two children from a previous marriage but wanted a child with her current husband, Kurt Sutter. Despite the couples' age, they were able to have their first daughter, Esme Louise, together.
