Fertility Treatment Cost.jpg

Once you have begun the fertility treatment process, you may be surprised to find out how quickly the costs add up. Many people require more than one course of fertility medication and it is common that more than one cycle of in vitro fertilization (IVF) or other treatment is needed.

Unlike many other health conditions, infertility can be costly, since it is often not covered by insurance companies. Currently, only 15 states have mandates in place that require insurance providers to offer fertility coverage or to provide coverage for fertility treatments. However, North Carolina is not one of the states that has such a mandate.

Even though there is not a state infertility insurance mandate in place, it can still be helpful to talk with a representative from your insurance plan before you begin treatment. Some private plans do provide coverage for certain treatments. It is important to know what is covered and at what amount so you don’t become surprised by a larger bill than you expected later on.
