What to Look for When Choosing a Fertility Clinic

You have many options for fertility clinics in Long Island and New York, but there are several ways in which you can optimize your choice. You should take several factors into consideration before you make your fertility clinic decision.

Not all fertility clinics are alike. Some only offer certain services, while others will only accept certain patients. Sorting all of this information may seem difficult. Thankfully, there is a resource out there to help you.

The resource is called the Assisted Reproductive Technology Report. This ART Report is compiled by the CDC, and includes the success rates for every fertility clinic operating in the United States.

This report also lists more detailed information about all of the fertility clinics. Information listed includes types of diagnoses treated, procedures offered, and what kinds of patients they accept, such as whether they work with single women or surrogates. The ART Report also breaks down the success rates by age group.

Compiling the ART Report is an intensive process, so it takes several years to complete each report. The most current report uses data from 2008.

The ART Report is a helpful starting point, but it should not be the only resource used when making your fertility clinic decision. It may be helpful to seek out recommendations from your OB/GYN or friends who have gone through similar situations. But before you make your decision, you should make it a point to visit each fertility clinic you are considering.

While you are visiting the clinic, observe how the staff treats their patients. This can give you an idea how you can expect to be treated if you were to choose that clinic. Also, try to arrange a consultation with a fertility doctor on staff, and bring your medical history with you.

Location is also a factor when choosing a fertility clinic. You will often have frequent appointments, some even once a day. Because of this, it is important to choose a fertility clinic to which you have easy access. Adding in a difficult commute can add stress to an already stressful situation.
