What to Look for When Choosing a Fertility Clinic
There are a lot of factors that go into choosing a fertility clinic, and it is common to feel overwhelmed when weighing your decision. However, there are helpful tools out there that can help you make a more-informed fertility clinic decision.
One of these tools is called the Assisted Reproductive Technology Report. The ART Report is a yearly report compiled by the CDC which lists information about each fertility clinic operating in the United States. The information on the ART Report includes diagnoses treated, fertility treatments offered, types of patients accepted, and accreditation.
The ART Report may be most widely-known for its fertility clinic success rates. The report lists success rates for fertility clinics in Nebraska and throughout the country. Fertility clinic success rates listed in the report include non-donor egg IVF, fresh donor egg IVF, and frozen donor egg IVF. The success rates for fresh, non-donor IVF cycles are also broken down into age group.
Reading through the ART Report can give you helpful background information on the fertility clinics you are considering. However, this information should be supplemented by personal visits to the clinics you are considering. This will allow you the opportunity to meet with the team of fertility professionals responsible for your care.
Throughout the course of your treatment, you will be cared for by your fertility doctors, nurses, infertility therapists, embryologists, financial advisors, and lab staff. It is important you feel comfortable with them.
At your visit, take time to gauge the atmosphere of the fertility clinic. Does the staff seem relaxed and eager to answer questions? Or do they seem stressed and short with their patients?
The location of your fertility clinic is also something to take into consideration. Because fertility treatments often require frequent appointments, if possible it is a good idea to choose a fertility clinic that is a reasonable distance away from your home.
Also, check the office hours of the fertility clinics you are considering. Fertility clinics that have evening or weekend hours may be a good choice for you if you have a busy work schedule.
