Fertility Nurse of the Month: Gayle Rodgers, R.N.
Gayle Rodgers, R.N. , Bluegrass Fertility
Gayle Rodgers has been described by her patients as friendly, always willing to help and accessible – readily calling to check in during her patients’ IVF cycles. An IVF nurse with Bluegrass Fertility in Lexington, KY, FertilityAuthority is pleased to honor Gayle Rodgers as Nurse of the Month.
Rodgers has worked at Bluegrass Fertility since it was founded 10 years. A former surgical nurse who worked with Dr. James Aiken in the operating room, she switched fields when he opened the IVF clinic. In addition to her clinical role, she says it’s her job to help her IVF patients “anticipate everything from start to finish.” She walks them through the cycle, teaches them how inject fertility drugs and counsels them. She provides this one on one, or in a group depending on the patient’s needs.
Once a patient starts an IVF or donor egg cycle, Bluegrass Fertility assigns one nurse to each patient, so she’s with them for the duration. She says that her patients need a lot of consulting and hand holding, and she enjoys that aspect of her job.
The most gratifying part of her role? Giving patients positive pregnancy news. And once patients have given birth, she says, many bring their babies back for her to meet them. “It makes it rewarding.”
