Infertility Insurance Coverage in Fort Worth, Texas
Infertility treatment costs can be expensive. Insurance coverage for infertility treatment, when available, varies plan by plan. Fortunately for residents of Fort Worth, Texas is one of the states that require offering insurance coverage for infertility treatments.
Texas law requires insurance plans that cover pregnancy services to offer insurance coverage for IVF treatment. While insurers must let employers know that coverage is available, employers are not required to include it in their insurance plans. Additionally employers affiliated with religious groups are not required to cover infertility treatments that contradict with their religious or ethical beliefs.
Texas fertility patients must meet these criteria in order to have IVF covered:
- A woman’s eggs must be fertilized by her husband’s sperm.
- The patient has been unable to carry a pregnancy to term with other infertility treatments
- The patient and her husband have had unexplained infertility for a five-year period. This may be waived if her infertility is associated with endometriosis, fetal exposure to DES, blocked or removed fallopian tubes, or her partner has semen with a low sperm count (oligospermia).
Before beginning infertility treatments, talk with your health insurance plan’s provider for complete information on specific costs related to diagnostic testing, fertility treatment and fertility drugs. If you are a fertility patient at Fort Worth Fertility clinic, their business office will contact your insurance provider to determine your eligibility.
