Infertility Insurance in Minnesota

Insurance 3.jpg

Fertility treatments can become costly, especially since multiple treatments or cycles are often needed. Many couples looking to their insurance to cover some of the costs are out of luck.

Currently, only around 15 states offer a mandate to offer coverage for infertility treatments or to cover infertility treatments. Minnesota is not one of these states, and has no laws requiring the offering of infertility insurance.

In fact, the 2009 Minnesota Statutesfurther clarify that medical assistance cannot cover fertility drugs that are specifically used to enhance fertility.

The good news? There is a public movement to enact an infertility insurance mandate in Minnesota. The blog Our Hope Minnesota is working to bring mandated insurance coverage to Minnesota.

It is recommended you talk directly with your insurance provider before undergoing treatments, because some private plans may offer some amount of coverage.
