Shared Donor Egg Cycles Can Be an Affordable Option

In a shared donor egg cycle, a donor’s eggs are shared between two (or three) recipients who share the cost of treatment. For some, this is a cost-effective way to afford egg donation.

Egg donors who participate in shared cycles may have had a previous successful donor egg cycle, and some donors and specifically deignated as shared donors.

The recipients may be designated as primary and secondary recipients, which would determine who gets priority for the eggs if there are an odd number of eggs produced. These designations may be determined by who chose the donor first, or the length of time waiting for a donor.

The egg donation cycle works like a standard cycle. However the fertility clinic may require that the donor produce a minimum number of eggs for a shared cycle. If the minimum number is not produced, all the eggs may be provided to the primary recipient.
