In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) in New York City

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is considered one of the most advanced technologies for helping a couple with infertility to build their family. IVF can be performed with the intended mother’s own eggs, donor eggs, the intended father’s sperm, donor sperm, or even donor embryo. For fertility patients using their own eggs, there are a few different types of IVF protocols and your fertility doctor will design a treatment plan that best addresses your fertility diagnosis.

IVF Protocols

Some IVF protocols begin with the use of birth control pills to suppress the patient’s natural hormones. Fertility drugs may or may not be used to stimulate follicle growth in the ovaries. Once the follicles are mature, egg retrieval is performed. The eggs are fertilized in the lab and transferred into the uterus several days later. A pregnancy hormone blood test is ordered approximately two weeks later to determine if the IVF cycle was successful.

Some of the most common IVF Protocols include:

  • Lupron Down Regulation (Long Lupron)
  • Antagonist
  • Micro-Dose Lupron Flare

Aside from these protocols, a fertility doctor may decide you are a candidate for Natural Cycle IVF or Mini-IVF, depending on your fertility diagnosis. Patients with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) respond well to Antagonist protocols while women with High FSH or Diminished Ovarian Reserve (DOR) see better success with a Micro-Dose Lupron Flare or Mini-IVF protocol. You should work with a fertility doctor who has extensive experience treating your fertility condition.
