When to See a Montana Fertility Doctor
If you have had difficulty trying to conceive, you’re not alone. According to RESOLVE, there are nearly 20,000 people in Montana with infertility.
Thankfully, there are doctors out there who specialize in treating infertility and reproductive health disorders. These fertility doctors, called reproductive endocrinologists, can diagnosis the cause of your infertility and can prescribe treatment plans to help you conceive.
So when should you make an appointment? A good rule of thumb is that women should consult with a fertility doctor if they have tried without success to get pregnant after one year of unprotected intercourse if they are younger than 35. If they are older than 35, they should only wait six months before making an appointment.
There is one fertility clinic in Montana, called the Billings Clinic. In this fertility clinic, there are two fertility doctors, as well as an embryologist and other fertility support staff members.
What is a fertility doctor?
A fertility doctor, or a reproductive endocrinologist, has been specially trained to treat disorders of the reproductive system, including infertility. Other disorders they can treat include menstrual problems, hormonal deficiencies, or miscarriage.
In order to be considered a fertility doctor, he or she must first complete a residency in obstetrics and gynecology, and then go on to a two or three year fellowship in reproductive endocrinology in which they undergo more specialized training. Following this, they must pass a written exam.
