Miscarriage and Heartbreak for Giuliana Rancic
a blog by Kim Griffiths, June 3, 2014
No strangers to infertility and pregnancy loss, it seems Giuliana and Bill Rancic have experienced an unfortunate loss once again. It was revealed this week that Giuliana’s gestational surrogate, Delphine, has suffered a miscarriage.
The Rancics have publicly experienced an arduous journey with infertility and miscarriage. After the discovery of breast cancer during routine IVF pre-testing, Giuliana enlisted the help of Delphine to carry the Rancic’s son, Duke, in 2012. Delphine agreed to a second embryo transfer this year to carry another child for the couple and was 9 weeks pregnant at the time of loss.
Both Bill and Giuliana were shocked and saddened by the news.
“Unfortunately our surrogate Delphine who we love very much had a miscarriage. It’s something that we didn’t see coming. We were devastated. She was about nine weeks pregnant. We were pretty close to getting into the safe zone,” Bill told People.
Giuliana echoed Bill’s sentiment in a later statement: “Bill and I want to grow our family more than anything else, so as you can imagine we were shocked and saddened when we received the bad news. We are incredibly appreciative of all the love and support from our viewers who have been on our journey for the past seven seasons and hope to have good news to share with everyone soon. We have had our share of ups and downs and our faith is strong therefore we know in the end, everything will be OK.”
The couple remains positive for the future and hopes to give Duke a sibling in the upcoming year.
