Ovarian Reserve to Blame for Kim Kardashian's Infertility
a blog by Claire, January 23, 2013
The latest news in the Kardashian fertility saga is that Kim Kardashian’s infertility was the result of poor egg quality. The reality star reported in an interview on the Today show last week that she shares the same infertility diagnosis as sister, Khloe Kardashian Odom.
In a September 2012 episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Khloe revealed to her mother, sisters, and cameras that she does not ovulate. Fertility conditions like premature ovarian aging can stop a woman in her 30s from ovulating if she has high levels of Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and her ovarian function is compromised.
This week's premier of Kourtney and Kim Take Miami focused on Kim Kardashian's infertility diagnosis. “I'm 31, and my egg levels came back as a woman that's in my 50s. I'm concerned just hearing all this information of how every woman is born with a certain amount of eggs, and that number can never be increased…Maybe this just isn't in the cards for me, and I'm freaking out a little bit,” Kardashian revealed. It's no wonder that her current pregnancy with rapper, Kanye West, came as a surprise.
Kardashian reports that once her fertility tests revealed diminished ovarian reserve, she stopped taking birth control pills per the advice of her fertility doctor, but never expected to conceive so soon. Younger sister, Khloe has publicly battled infertility during her three-year marriage to Lamar Odom, while Kourtney Kardashian has two children with boyfriend, Scott Disick.
