Aisha Tyler Reveals Struggle with Infertility, IVF
a blog by Claire, September 16, 2013
Aisha Tyler, of The Talk, revealed she has struggled with infertility on air Tuesday.
Tyler, 42, discussed her long journey of trying to conceive with husband of 21 years, Jeff Tietjens. She became emotional as she described her journey from stopping birth control pills through in vitro fertilization (IVF) and ultimately being told by her fertility doctor that she has very little chance of conceiving. “After 40, your chances of getting pregnant are between 2 and 8 percent, and in my particular case they were less than 5 percent,” Tyler told viewers.
The source of the Tyler’s infertility stems from tubal factor infertility- a twisted fallopian tube- which makes it very difficult for ovulation and fertilization to occur.
Despite the couple’s desire to become parents, they have decided to stop trying to conceive and are holding off on adoption for now to emotionally recover from the stress of infertility. Tyler admitted to cohost Sarah Gilbert: “I love the idea of adoption, but I feel like this is such a fresh wound that I want to let it heal for a while before I think about what we could do.”
