What's an Endocrine Disruptor?

In Europe, news reports are now warning that fake tanning products have a chemical "cocktail" that can cause problems with fertility, as well as contribute to obesity, diabetes and cancer. The culprits for fertility? Endocrine disruptors.

Endocrine disruptor? What's that?

Endocrine disruptors are chemicals that may interfere with the body's endocrine (hormonal) system, causing negative developmental, reproductive, neurological and immune effects in both humans and animals. And these endocrine disruptors are everywhere: in cosmetics, plasticizers, pesticides and more. When they get into your body, they can change your hormone levels for such things as estrogens, androgens and thyroid hormones — all important hormones the reproductive health of men and women.
