Fertility Authority’s Blog of the Week: In Vitro
The blog we’d like to feature this week is In Vitro.
Amy Klein is a writer who shares her personal journey with infertility both at the New York Times “Motherlode” blog (her contribution is called Fertility Diary) and at FertilityAuthority.com.
After an array of fertility treatments, hormone injections, and three miscarriages, Amy and her husband Solomon ventured to Israel to undergo IVF with preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD). Traditionally, Israeli doctors tend to perform PGD only when screening for a specific disease like Tay Sachs. This posed a challenge for Amy in choosing the right fertility doctor, as the couple hopes to screen out chromosomally abnormal embryos with PGD to prevent future miscarriages. Thanks to the generosity of a rabbi here in the US and the help of an optimistic fertility doctor in Israel, Amy and Solomon are moving forward with treatment.
