Finding a Fertility Clinic
If you've been trying to conceive for a year or longer (six months or longer if you are over 35), it might be time to schedule a fertility work-up at a fertility clinic. But how do you go about finding the right one for you?
There are many criteria you can use, one of which is fertility clinic success rates as reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and published in the Assisted Reproductive Technology Success Rates report.
Here are some things to keep in mind regarding CDC data:
- The most recent CDC data is almost three years old. The reason is that fertility clinics have to report live births, which occur approximately nine months after the IVF cycles are complete. The CDC also needs time to compile, review, print and publish the data.
- A fertility clinic's success rates can be influenced by the types of patients they choose to treat. For example, patients' ages have an effect — a fertility clinic with a younger patient population is likely to have higher success rates.
- Pay attention to the number of embryos transferred, which can also play a role in higher success rates. However, being pregnant with multiples — even twins — can be dangerous to the mother and child.
There are many other things to evaluate when searching for a fertility clinic, such as hours of operation, geographic location, the fertility doctors and nurses on staff, the services and types of fertility treatments offered, the lab that is used for IVF, etc. Click here to search by zip code and find a fertility clinic near you or contact our Patient Care Advocates at 1-855-955-BABY (2229) for a more personalized match.
