No One in My Family Has Fertility Problems
People coping with infertility often say: "No one in my family has fertility problems."
Yes they do. They probably just don’t talk about it.
Your mom popped out her babies like candy. Your brother has two babies under 2 years old. Your cousin Martha got pregnant on her wedding night, and your sister-in-law gets pregnant just by coughing ... or so it seems.
Infertility can be a difficult subject to talk about, and many couples feel embarrassed to discuss it in public. Remember your distant childless cousin Stephanie? You might be wondering now if she is childless by choice or because of fertility issues. And what about your great aunt and uncle who never had children? Did they remain childless because they didn’t have fertility treatments in their day?
Many couples are affected by infertility, and although it may feel like you are alone in your fertility journey, that is not the case. You are not alone, and sometimes it helps to lean on your family and friends for additional support. Who knows? Perhaps cousin Betsy really does understand what you’re going through. Give them a chance.
