Why Did My IUI Fail?

You did an intrauterine insemination (IUI). Your IUI cycle was timed perfectly, your follicles were a great size, and his sperm count and motility were impressive. So why did it fail?

After a negative pregnancy test, you may question why you didn’t get pregnant and look to your doctor for answers. Trying to determine a reason why you didn’t achieve a pregnancy following a seemingly perfect looking cycle, doesn’t always have the answers you’re hoping for. Sometimes there isn’t a good answer.

It can take up to a year for non-infertile couples to get pregnant, without a reasonable explanation as to why it didn’t happen sooner. Sometimes the answer is simply that there is no explanation, and that in itself can be very frustrating.

But if you’re trying to get pregnant, chances are you are very determined and probably won’t stop until you get a baby. So just because one cycle failed, doesn’t mean the next one will.

If you've gone through three failed IUI cycles, it may be time to consider moving on to in vitro fertilization (IVF) or at least consider injectable fertility drugs instead of Clomid.
