Donor insemination is an option for lesbian women or couples who wish to have a biological connection to their child. You may use an anonymous sperm donor through a sperm bank or fertility center, or a known donor who may be a friend or relative.
Lesbian couples often face additional challenges related to pregnancy, in comparison to straight couples. First of all, they must determine which partner will carry the pregnancy, and, in order to conceive, they must use donor sperm.
At West Coast Women’s Reproductive Center, we believe that everyone who wants to have a family has the right to. We fully support lesbian parents and couples and feel it is essential to find the right individual solution for each woman.

Women want to ensure that the sperm sample being used for their insemination is safe and will not put them or their potential child at risk. Donor sperm purchased from a sperm bank has been tested for infectious diseases, and the donors have had some level of genetic testing. Sperm banks are regulated by the FDA which requires Serological testing and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) testing.
