The Lowdown on Male Fertility
IN THE bad old days about 50 years ago, when a couple couldn’t conceive, the husband usually told his wife to see her gynaecologist. If the doctor couldn’t help, any hopes of having their own baby were dashed.
Today the treatment of infertility has advanced technologically, and in ways that see a couple sensitively treated at a “one-stop” unit for this multifaceted condition.
About one in six couples will experience some form of infertility, say the experts. Usually it’s the woman who makes the first call to an infertility centre, and it’s right there at the start that she is told the first interview should ideally be with her partner.
