Local Couple Detail Plan of Giving Up Baby
It's a question Carolyn and Sean Savage ask often.
"We have three children. Or do we have four?"
A strange question, they say, but the kind that parents who have lost a child ask themselves from time to time.
And so begins the Savages' 304-page book, Inconceivable: A Medical Mistake, the Baby We Couldn't Keep, and Our Choice to Deliver the Ultimate Gift, being released Monday.
In it, the Sylvania Township couple detail heartbreaking decisions they had to make after learning in February, 2009, that Mrs. Savage was pregnant with another woman's baby.
The book confirms what was suspected by The Blade: namely, that the name Savage was directly linked to the error. The Blade had learned that Savage was the maiden name of the genetic mother, Shannon Morell of Sterling Heights, Mich., and Mr. Savage suggested in 2009 the names may have been more than a coincidence in how his wife was implanted with the wrong embryos. Both Mrs. Savage and Mrs. Morell went to the same clinic.
