Embryo donation

I completed an embryo transfer and became pregnant in 2010. We were assured that these embryos were healthy and the biological parents had undergone rigerous testing for genetic conditions. We found this to be untrue. When our child was 15 months old, our child developed a rare and deadly cancer that after further testing was found to be caused by a rare genetic condition. We informed Genetics and IVF of the genetic condition and they seemed unconcerned and uninterested in helping us or even notifying the other families who had also borne children from these same embryos. These children have a high probability of developing numerous cancers over their lifetime. The genetic condition has a 50 percent chance of being passed on to these children and will likely limit their lifespan to an age of 40. I found it to be unconscionable that Genetics and IVF seem so unconcerned for our child and the health of the other children who were born with the possibility of having inherited this condition. I always think about them and wonder if any of them have already passed away from a deadly cancer their parents never knew they were destined to get from birth. It seems a cruel fate to the parents and children to have borne a child after so much heartache and to endure the pain of him/her suffering such a painful death or undergoing excruciating cancer treatments, especially when additional screening of the embryos could have prevented all the suffering. Shame on you Genetics and IVF. I wonder how your doctors sleep at night and if you worry about these children and their unsuspecting parents who will suffer because you failed to care for them as you should have!

Poor quality donor egg cohort.

I purchased a cohort of 8 frozen donor eggs from this company in October 2014. Not one egg grew to blastocyst stage, all arrested on day three of growth. So I did not even get a chance at a transfer. And the company has refused to refund my money. So they keep $12,500 of my money and I get nothing but shattered hope. Bad business, bad business practices, and poor quality product.

Reply from Genetics & IVF Institute

We recognize that embryo transfer success rates will vary based on a number of factors when dealing with human tissue. For this reason, our company guarantees that the warmed eggs from one full cohort will result in at least one good embryo for transfer or we will provide replacement cohort to the affiliated clinic. As we have discussed with Ms. Jonas through private conversations, she and all of our customers meeting the guarantee criteria are welcome to proceed with another cycle using a cohort replacement. We strive to provide the best experience possible. – The Fairfax EggBank Team
