I unfortunately was one of those hard cases. Many miscarriages, no real reasons pointing to why, 36 years old, so not really old but just on this side of advanced maternal age, wanting answers, not finding answers, A lot of "unexplained infertility", and last but not least tired, angry and a crappy attitude. All I knew is I wanted to become a mom in the worst way and felt it was truly out if my reach. A friend of mine had been treated by Dr. John Hesla and had a child via Egg Donation the year before and shared with me how great he was – and how he partnered with her to help her become a mother. "He's like an up-to-date Mr. Rogers" that's what she said. Whip smart, brilliant, on the cutting edge of medicine, and a delightful bedside manner. All too good to be true in my book – I was skeptical. I had many questions, I had researched infertility, and so I wasn't going to be the patient that just did what the doctor told her to do – I needed to know why. This meant a lot of questions being asked of my doctor and me worrying he would think I was a pain in the neck. Dr. Hesla was in a word - a saint. He was patient, answered all of my questions, and did not appear to be offended when I questioned him on his data. He also was available by email which was unheard of back then. Granted, I did my cycle years ago, when all of this third-party reproduction technology was new. And I had success on my first cycle. The entire team was and still is amazing. From the moment you walk into reception you're not a number, you are treated with respect and kindness, and the entire staff generally cares about its patients. So here is my special shout out to the embryologists- regardless of how amazing a doctor or clinic is when it comes to IVF it's all about embryology. The embryologist at this clinic are rock stars. They are so skilled, brilliant, and smart – they know their craft, and they hone it perfectly. The success rates have continued to increase over the years and now they are through the roof! A very cool aspect of this clinic is they do not cherry pick- meaning they don't just take patients who they think will succeed. They will work with you, and partner with you, on a case-by-case basis. My son is now a teenager, and if I had to do it all over again they would still be my #1 clinic, and he would be my #1 choice of physician. So if you want to find out what's going on with your body, they will leave no stone unturned. Like I said in my title – If ORM Can't Get You Pregnant Nobody Can!
