Thankful for SG

Thankful is the first word that comes to mind when I think about SG - not only because of the outcome (we have a healthy baby girl) but also due to the care and compassion we received. Everyone there, from Dr. McKeeby and our nurse Beth, to the ladies who draw your blood and check you in each day, were compassionate and caring. They treated me with kindness and always provided support, I can't thank them enough. The process isn't always easy - it takes a great deal of time and emotional energy - but they make it as easy as possible. After successful IUI, we recently delivered our healthy baby girl. When it's time to have baby number 2, I look forward to going back.

So Thankful For Shady Grove

My husband and I tried for two plus years and were really uncertain about going the fertility route. One of the main reasons we originally with Shady Grove was about of location (very close to home and work) and my friend is an embryologist in another state raved about how great of a clinic Shady Grove was because of their processes and service. We felt so fortunate to live so close to one. The team there was very helpful. We had obviously had many questions along the way and between our doctor, team of nurses, and the financial advisor they were all able to provide the answers we needed to move forward. Between the many appointments and uncertainty of the outcome, one thing I could count on was the overly friendly staff. They always had a smile on their face or would hold my hand which helped alleviate my anxiety. Ultimately we found success through Shady Grove. My husband and I were set on only going through this process once, but based on how great of an experience we had, we're more open to expanding our family further when the time comes.

Chesterbrook PA Experience

My wife and I have starting with Shady Grove in Chesterbrook, PA this year. We selecting them primarily due to their proximity to our home and my wife's work, and also their success in helping couples conceive. We originally met with Dr. Sasson in 2016 before deciding to wait until January 2017 to get started for insurance reasons. In our initial consultation, Dr. Sasson told us all about our infertility issues, their causes, the potential for success, and why we were good candidates for IVF. We left knowing much more about our infertility and did not feel pressured to get started. Dr. Sasson answered any and all of our questions for the months leading up to our starting IVF in January. Everyone at Shady Grove in Chesterbrook was incredibly nice, patient and happy to answer our questions. Infertility is very difficult to deal with, and deeply personal. All the staff seemed to understand our concerns, listen to our questions, and do their best to make us feel comfortable. I worked closely with their financial advisor on the cost of treatment. This process is incredibly complicated and she was very patient with me, and ultimately, we found solutions to every problem. There are some tricky parts of IVF as far as insurance coverage and we always got to the right answer and we didn't have any surprise costs. Once we started working with Dr. Sasson and his team of nurses and assistants, things kept moving without a hitch. We worked through medication options, injection procedures, surgeries, testing and what to expect physically throughout the IVF process. Erica was our primary contact on the nursing team and went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable. She answered every question, tracked down cheaper meds for us, and really went above and beyond in caring for my wife. All of the procedures get to be stressful and with increased hormones things can get emotional. We were fortunate enough to get pregnant our first round of IVF and Shady Grove is the reason for that. Yes, they are busy. They are busy because they're successful at getting people with infertility pregnant. I did not experience any of the "factory like" conditions that other reviewers did, and give my highest recommendation to Shady Grove in Chesterbrook.

Avoid shady grove

My experience with Shady Grove has been shady to say the least. It's one big factory that could careless about the patients. They only care about their statictics and their money. Aviod them at all costs. The doctors are ok but they are surrounded by incompetent and untrustworthy nurses and employees. Go to dominion instead. A much more descent practice. If you decide to go with SGF question everything. This is a stressful process as is and no one needs the other stress of being in this factory.

I would recommend Dr. Bromer to anyone. He is extremely friendly, professional, and makes me feel that I'm not just another one of his patients. I had my first ever miscarriage and was very depressed about it. Dr. Bromer contacted me several times after the miscarriage just to see how I was doing. It was very kind of him to do that.

Couldn't have asked for better care!

My journey started about 6 years ago. My husband and I tried for 2 years to get pregnant with no success. I was referred to Shady Grove by a friend and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Not because I was successful on my 1st or 2nd try, but because despite my many failed cycles, Shady Grove offered so much wonderful knowledge and support during my difficult journey and told me not to give up. Dr. Greenhouse, Dr, Browne and the entire staff of Fair Oaks are so wonderful and helped make a very stressful, exhausting, and frustrating experience, much more manageable and tolerable. I always felt well informed and was an active participant in my care. Unlike some reviews here, I personally NEVER felt like a "number" despite how big the practice is, and that is a testament to how wonderful the Fair Oaks office is. Monitoring appointments went smoothly and efficiently and my nurse always answered emails and returned my calls in a timely, reasonable fashion. She never made me feel like I was bothering her, despite my many questions. So, 6 years, 3 IUI's and 5 IVF cycles later, I am a proud mother thanks to Shady Grove! I would recommend them in a heartbeat to anyone I know. I wish you all the best in your personal journey.

Wouldn't go anywhere else!

From the moment I went to Shady Grove, I knew I was in the right place! I have a rather extensive amount of issues, pcos, possible adenomyosis, and only one ovary. Dr. Browne in the Fair Oaks office was wonderful and explained everything in detail. My husband and I went through the initial diagnostic testing and were able to proceed with an IUI cycle. We were fortunate it worked on the first try! I am forever grateful to the wonderful care we received from Dr. Browne, the nursing staff, and everyone at the Fair Oaks office. I would highly recommend anyone to seek help from Shady Grove if they are having fertility issues.

The reviewers above are right: if you're reading these reviews because you're considering infertility treatments, you're at an incredibly difficult, emotionally exhausting, financially intimidating moment in your journey. For us, our journey with Shady Grove began after our first miscarriage that was followed by over 6 months of inability to get pregnant again (I was advanced maternal age, which makes 6 months an important marker). From the moment I first spoke with Dr. Khan (Leesburg office) on the phone, it felt like someone was invested in understanding my situation. We learned that the treatments my OB had given me were based on an inaccurate diagnosis, but the Leesburg office was still willing to work with that same OB to get as many tests as possible done through my OB to save costs. (My insurance has 0% infertility coverage.) When we had our second miscarriage a few months later (after our second injectibles/IUI cycle with Shady Grove), we weren't at our "home office" in Leesburg when we learned the news; instead, we were sitting across the table from a doctor we'd never met. That doctor sat with us for a half hour, first letting the news sink in, then letting us ask questions, finally presenting us with next steps. Before I even reached the car, my nurse from the Leesburg office had called to offer her support, and Dr. Khan personally called before the day was out. And so we arrive at my experience with the Rockville office, because we went there for our second D&C. Again, I was faced with a doctor I'd never met who was about to perform a procedure I never wanted to go through again. That doctor was kind and compassionate, giving my husband and me as much time as we needed before starting the procedure, holding my hand as he talked me through what was going to happen, and even personally finding my husband after the procedure to bring him back to the recovery room. When we called Dr. Khan the next day and asked if we might take a few months off just to heal emotionally, he offered words of reassurance (both personal and medical). In the next five months, no one called us to tell us to start a new cycle; no one hounded us about needing to get an appointment on the books or pay a free. Instead, it was entirely our choice to return when we were ready. The result of that third cycle is our now three-year-old. I don't want to discount anyone else's reviews because each experience is personal and individual. But I just wanted to share my experiences which were quite different from those above. To anyone reading this, I wish you all the best as you travel the road to building your family.

This review is for all of Shady Grove, not just the Rockville office. They are huge machine and know that they are the only option for fertility treatment for much of their coverage area. We felt like cogs on an assembly line for much of our "journey." They made some errors (which we caught and were able to correct) but ultimately they did their job and we have a baby. They know that their clients will do anything to have a child and so they don't have to worry about individualized care or customer service.

SGF ruined one IVF cycle for me, and if I hadn't been my own advocate, they would have ruined two! SGF is like an IVF mill, just crowding its patients through, instead of providing personalized care. Because they have patients stacked so high, when it came time for my egg retrieval for an IVF cycle, their only availability was outside of the retrieval window. They told me it was fine. When I arrived, I was cramping terribly. I knew something was wrong. They ignored me and told me it was normal. It was not normal. What happened is I was ovulating. I had about 17 mature eggs going into the cycle, but SGF was only able to 3. During my second round of IVF, the nurse told me to take the wrong medication at the wrong time. I knew the information was wrong because of my previous IVF cycle. When I challenged her, she went back, did her research, and admitted her error. But not with a deep profuse apology for almost ruining my second IVF cycle, but with a shrug. It didn't even phase her. If I had not been my own advocate, the second IVF cycle would have been ruined as well. When it comes time to implant my embryos, I am going elsewhere. I don't trust SGF at all. I gave SGF two stars instead of one, because my doctor was was very knowledgeable and did seem to care. But after my diagnosis and consultation, I was pushed over to the nurses. Some nurses are great, but there are enough incompetent ones, clearly, to mess up your IVF. If you choose to go there for initial diagnosis, no problem. After that, go somewhere else.

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!

Just like the other reviewers, I wish there was an option to give 0 stars. We started at Shady Grove because they were the only place that participated with our insurance. If I were to do this all over again, I would rather pay thousands of dollars out of pocket than go back to Shady Grove. The care is very impersonal (only spoke to the doctor for initial consultation and right before the transfer) and we had a cancelled IVF cycle due to the doctor's error. I could go on an on with reasons of why to avoid this place. Don't make the same mistake we did!

AVOID SHADY GROVE!!!

I really wish I read these reviews prior to starting my infertility journey with Shady Grove as I would have stayed far far away. Unfortunately we are currently patients and based on our experience, we could not agree with what everyone wrote in the other reviews more. This is another review for all of the women, beginning the tough, unfortunate, and confusing journey of infertility, and are considering Shady Grove for evaluation and treatment. We initially came to Shady Grove when we were ready to try for our second child because our insurance was requiring us to do IVF (even though we had a successful pregnancy using shots and ti) AND they were in-network. We should have known from the beginning that our perception that this is purely a business is accurate. Shady Grove is not a caring group of doctors who want to help patients grow their families. All my conversations were with the Nurse coordinator and I never received a call from the doctor except for the initial visit. When I would ask the nurse a follow-up question, I would get a rude response and never a straight answer. Every single thing I did as part of monitoring I felt like it was to protect them from litigation, instead of assisting in getting me pregnant. We had to cancel our first IVF cycle with them due to an error on the doctors part in my treatment protocol (confirmed by second opinion). We are on our second cycle. My husband and I decided if we do not get pregnant this cycle, we would rather pay out of pocket for IVF than go back to Shady Grove.

My experience has been a beautiful one. Every nurse, doctor, patient was wonderful. However, my egg transfer was yday 10:30 am Rockville location. One nurse ruined a $30,000 experience. I was alone and I wanted to record the transfer. I was in stir ups and the nurse TOOK my phone and sat it on the sink stating "so it doesn't fall" I asked for my phone back to record the process she stated "we ALWAYS replay it at the end" I felt uneasy however at this point a catheter was being put into my cervix. There was no playback at the end for reasons that I'm not concerned about. She stated "it's the dr fault because he zoomed in" and said nothing else I was not able to get any footage of a life changing experience I was livid I ranted and cried for 30 minutes before leaving the room. She was standing outside the room and I confronted her "ma'am I'm not happy that I" she cut me off "I told the dr you were upset" she raises her voice "but I mean I apologize" . This was a horrible experience. I will not let it go. She needs to be fired. It takes me 3 hours to get home from MD I cried the whole way. I got home with no footage for my partner, mom, sister so we all sat and googled egg transfer to see videos. Nothing could change this experience for me. However I have a blog and I'm asking my followers to request any other nurse besides her 46 people have committed to doing that so far.

Not only did they waste my time but after making me go thru all the procidures they tell me we can no longer continue treatment ... I have never been treated like I have by them the nurse was rude and they did not explain anything on top of that I had to be the one to keep calling them to try and find out what's going on if anyone needs to go somewhere because they are having trouble having a baby don't even consider shady grove they are horrible worse decision I've ever made by far ..

Agree with previous review they deserve 0 stars

We started at Shady Grove because they were the only one in the area that participated with our crappy insurance…big mistake. The lesson with I learned is you have to pay for quality care, and I wouldn't recommend SGF to anyone.

Is there an option for 0 stars?

I'm not one to write a review under most circumstances. My expectations are normally minimal of most places...doctors, restaurants, anything...therefore bad experiences don't provoke me to write a review so that I can be heard. This review is for all of the women, beginning the tough, unfortunate, and confusing journey of infertility, and are considering Shady Grove for evaluation and treatment. My journey began 3 years ago with Shady Grove. During this time, I've spoken to my doctor only 3 times. Most of my conversations were with nurses and technicians who were annoyed with me everytime I had a question or required a little more clarity. Each time I spoke with someone, I had to remind them of how long I had been receiving treatment and what my status was. I would often have to ask them to read my chart, as the advice they were giving was for medications and treatments that I hadn't even received. The monitoring is extensive and seems more for letigation protection than to assist you in having a baby. Shady Grove is by far, the worst medical care that I've ever received. Their cookie cutter process was not for me, and unfortunately, it took 3 years along with emotional and financial drainage for me to realize it. This time in a womans life is too difficult as it is to attend a clinic that treats you with no specific care or warmth. Every womens issues are not the same and it seems that Shady Grove applies their factory-like process to everyone that comes in the door. All of the previous negative reviews are accurate. I'm sure that their success rate comes from luck as there are no expertise being conveyed in any interaction. I strongly advise for anyone with fertility issues to seek help at any practice other than Shady Grove. I've recently made an appointment with a new practice and my experience is already significantly more positive. Best of luck to you on your journey.
