Be Aware Be Informed

This clinic, Midwest Fertility Center Dr. Madanes, be aware, be informed. I had my first ever consultation last night, prior to scheduling my appointent I did my research, or so I thought. I had my typed up questions, read reviews, joined this group, just to get aquainted with the process and lingo. I specificlly asked prior to scheduling the appointment if the Dr. had patients that went through the IVF treatment that could not get pregnant due to having an Essure procedure. I wanted a Dr. that was familiar with Essure and had experience with such patients. I was told yes, he has treated women with Essure. My number one question to him was "how many IVF precedures have you done with patients post Essure" to which he answered serveral. So me, realizing when the question is being avoided, ask "was it a dozen, less, one, two"? He then tells me he hasn't kept count, I say ok, then how many successful pregnacies have you had with Essure patients, he says some were sucessfull some were not. He then proceeds to avoid/evaide all of the following questions (28 total). He sends us along to discuss medication and testing with his nurse, I asked her how many Essure patients has she treated, and she tells me I'm her first! I'm so thrown off by this I find out that she's worked for the Dr. 7 years and I'm her first. I was then told to contact the Downers Grove facility as they've had more exposure to patients with a variety of issues, so I do. I come to find that that location has not had any Essure patients either. It gets better, I asked the nurse why I needed an an HSG test, we know my tubes are blocked I have coils in them. She begins to tell me that the HSG test isn't just to see if my tubes are blocked, it checks the lining of my uterus and the number of eggs I have. REALLY?? I was then called from an employees cell phone to tell me good for me for doing research and asking questions. She said that the Dr. orders tests, and medications that are not needed to inflate the cost, and assumes that women are so deperate to have a child, they trust him. I'm a cash payer, this is heartbreaking to me. I spoke with a Doctor that does specialize in Essure patients, and I was advised the device must be removed by removing my fallopian tubes, prior to an IVF cycle.

Cant get my refund

Midwest charged us for a procedure. The procedure wasn't completed and we were due a refund of over a thousand dollars. They told us we would have to request a refund in writing. My wife wrote it up on the spot and gave it to them. They stated it can take up to 3 weeks to refund the charge. Contacted them over a month later and they wanted ANOTHER refund request in writing. The refund never came. Finally ended up filing a claim with the credit card company. If we had paid in cash, we would have had to sue them. I would not do business with these folks.

Poor Embryologist

The embryologist kept 4 embryos, charged us a few thousand to freeze them. When thawed my other clinic couldn't even transfer them. They were all POOR quality and did not survive. We were lied to that these were Quality blasts. They would have charged us for 4 FET cycles had we not moved them to do PGS testing and found them to be poor quality. We moved clinics because I did not feel the doctor or his manager were being honest or taking my issues seriously. I ended up in the emergency room due to a burst cyst mid cycle (my own fault I guess I should have waited for surgery to remove it first) but I had to have a different fertility clinic consult on what the ER could give me because the oncall service couldn't help me reach MFI. CHEAP but unless you are pretty healthy with unexplained infertility, go to a better clinic.

Dr. Madanes was very patient listening to my husband and I discuss our concerns. He gave us thorough answers and took a lot of time explaining what we would need to do in terms of diagnosis and treatment. The staff was pretty nice, too. Overall, we are excited to be undergoing IVF with him and can't wait to get started!
