What genetic abnormalities can PGD identify?

PGD can be used to identify a variety of abnormalities. It can be used to identify genetic and chromosomal abnormalities as well as translocation of a gene. These abnormalities are what can cause recurrent miscarriages and not viable embryos. Also, it can be used as a preventative measure for future termination of the pregnancy. If embryologists can select a non-viable emrbyo before the transfer, it can decrease the chances of a more difficult pregnancy for the woman. Dr. Ilan Tur-Kaspa from Institute for Human Reproduction explains.
